Samuel Gandy is an American neurologist and researcher specializing in Alzheimer's disease. He is the Mount Sinai Professor of Alzheimer's Disease Research and Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry. Dr. Gandy received both his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. He has held positions at prestigious institutions including The Rockefeller University, Cornell University Medical College, and New York University.
Dr. Gandy's research has focused on the metabolism of amyloid, a substance that forms plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. His team discovered the first drugs that could lower amyloid formation. He also studies new methods for diagnosing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and has received continuous funding for his research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 1986.
